Moving in Mosman Bay

Mosman Bay is a steep, wooded valley folding down to the ferry wharf, and the move here is defined by the slope and the lanes. Homes and apartments are stacked up the valley sides, with grand old blocks and walk-up flats along Avenue Road and the streets and laneways that wind down toward the water. Near the wharf the access is stair-only on some frontages, and the tight, winding lanes, including the narrow steps and paths like Trumfield Lane, mean a large truck often cannot get close to the lower homes. So the crew carries up or down to wherever the truck can legally and safely stand, which is frequently a fair walk from the door. It is one of the prettiest pockets in Mosman and one of the more awkward to move in, so the plan is all about which way the stairs run and how far in the truck can realistically get.

Local access & logistics

Every Mosman Bay move starts with the access, because that decides the truck, the crew and the carry. Here is what we plan around:

  • Homes and flats are stacked up the steep valley sides, so nearly every move is a stair carry one way or the other.
  • The lanes winding down to the ferry wharf are tight, and a large truck often cannot reach the lower homes.
  • Some wharf-side frontages are stair-only, so the carry is from wherever the truck can safely stand up the hill.
  • A mix of grand period blocks and walk-up flats means heavy items on internal and external stairs are routine here.

We know streets like Avenue Road, Trumfield Lane, Curraghbeena Road and the access that comes with them. Send your pickup and drop-off addresses with your quote and we will tell you exactly how we would handle the carry, the parking and any flight of stairs.

Mosman Bay is a steep wooded valley around the ferry wharf, so the move is defined by which way the stairs run and how far the truck can get in. See what crew and truck that calls for with the Stairs & Carry Planner, then send the result with your quote.

Parking and access in the Mosman Council area

Mosman Council does not offer a removalist parking permit. It runs Residential Parking Schemes on many streets (digital permits managed through vPermit, valid 1 November to 31 October) plus foreshore parking permits, and its only road-occupation permit is a construction works zone, not something a household move can use. So in practice a Mosman move means parking the truck legally at the kerb as close to your entrance as the street allows and working around the clearways. Spit Road, the route down to the Spit Bridge, is a 24-hour clearway where no vehicle may stop at any time, and Military Road is a peak-hour clearway through the village, so we load from a quieter side street and scout that spot ahead of the day. On a Residential Parking Scheme street a removal truck holds no resident exemption, so we plan where it can legally stand rather than assume a space is free.

Our Mosman Bay removal services
Mosman Bay removals: common questions
Can a removal truck reach a home near the Mosman Bay ferry wharf?

Often not closely. The lanes winding down to the wharf are tight, and a large truck frequently cannot get near the lower homes. We park where the truck can legally and safely stand up the hill and carry from there, and on the tightest jobs we use a smaller truck to get closer. Tell us your street and we will work out the access.

My Mosman Bay flat is up a steep stair from the lane. How does that work?

Homes and walk-up flats here are stacked up the valley sides, so a stair carry one way or the other is the norm. The crew works the steps between your door and wherever the truck can stop, and we size the crew to the climb so a long carry does not stretch the day out.

Are there stair-only homes in Mosman Bay?

Yes, some frontages near the wharf are reached by stairs or a path with no vehicle access at all. Those moves are carried entirely between the door and the nearest truck spot, so we plan the route and the crew around the stairs before the day rather than discovering it on it.

How much does a move in Mosman Bay cost?

Our online-quote rates start at $200/hour for two movers and a truck ($250 for three, $400 for a larger crew with two trucks), and you get a clear indicative quote up front for your specific move. No surprises on the day.
